Wise Under Investigation: What It Means for Money Transfer Affiliate Recommendations

Belgian prosecutors are investigating Wise Europe SA for approximately €500M in suspicious transactions. Shares fell ~20%. UK users are not directly affected. Here is what affiliates and content publishers should do now.

What Happened

On June 1, 2026, it emerged that Belgian federal prosecutors (Parquet fédéral) are investigating Wise Europe SA — the Brussels-based EU subsidiary of Wise plc — in connection with approximately €500M in suspicious transactions.

Wise shares (LSE: WISE) fell approximately 20% on the news. As of the time of writing, the investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed. The FCA has made no public comment.

Who Is Affected

UK users are not directly affected. The investigation targets Wise Europe SA, which is the entity regulated by the National Bank of Belgium for EU operations. UK customers hold accounts with Wise Payments Limited, which is authorised by the FCA (FRN 900507) as an Electronic Money Institution.

These are legally separate entities with separate regulatory oversight.

EU users should note that the investigation relates to the Belgian-regulated entity handling EU transactions. However, Wise’s anti-money laundering obligations under AMLD5/AMLD6 apply across all EU entities.

What This Means for Affiliates

An investigation is not an enforcement action. There is no FCA order, no service suspension, and no user fund risk under the current known facts.

Do not remove Wise from active recommendations based on an ongoing investigation alone. Removing a market-leading product from editorial recommendations based on unproven allegations would harm editorial credibility and disadvantage readers.

Do add a factual caveat to Wise Business UK listings and comparison pages noting:

Note (June 2026): Wise Europe SA (the EU subsidiary) is under investigation by Belgian prosecutors in connection with suspicious transaction reports. UK operations are regulated separately by the FCA and are not subject to this investigation. We will update this page if the regulatory situation changes.

Monitoring Checklist

  • Weekly: Check the FCA Enforcement Register for any FCA action against Wise Payments Limited
  • 2026-07-01 deadline: If no FCA action by this date, the caveat remains in place but the flag can be downgraded from P0 to P1
  • Trigger for removal from recommendations: An FCA enforcement order, service suspension notice, or confirmed user fund impairment — none of which exist as of this writing

Affiliate Programme Status

The Wise Business UK affiliate programme runs on Partnerize (Net 30, £50 CPA for qualifying Business accounts). As of June 18, 2026, the programme is operating normally. No changes to affiliate terms have been announced.
